Trees have long been an essential part of my drawing practice and this has naturally morphed to a fascination with the shadows they cast.

In the work for Shadowplay, the drawings employ many shades of blue, as shadows often are, to capture the play of form that occurs when wind and cloud cast ephemeral shapes on a solid surface. Converting these drawings to a digital animation deepens and enlivens this effect.  The animations created by Kailee Fawcett are dual natured; they explore the movement of the shadows but also the process of making the drawings, photographs having been taken as the work was in progress.

This human touch, the act of mark making, has become more precious in a digital world. Also important is having the work exhibited as part of Artsco’s Light Up Kelowna which takes work out of the gallery system and places it in the public sphere, open to all.

Artist Biography

Jane Everett’s adopted home in the interior of British Columbia and the intersection between the man-made and natural worlds together form the recurrent focus of her practice in both drawing and painting. Essentially a study of light as it elucidates or obscures form, her work is always landscape based. Everett’s work has been exhibited across the country in private and public galleries and has expanded to the visuals for Ballet Kelowna’s Macbeth, and Saskatoon’s Nuit Blanche and Artsco’s Light Up Kelowna. Her solo exhibition, Long Road Home, will be at Ingram Gallery in Toronto in October, 2026. Everett did her Fine Arts degree at Queen’s University.
