Are you – or do you know – a Canadian professional violinist or cellist pursuing an international solo or chamber music career?

About the competition
The Canada Council’s Musical Instrument Bank program offers classical musicians a unique opportunity to borrow rare, fine-stringed instruments for a 3-year period.

About the instruments
The MIB collection includes 20 violins and cellos dating from the late 1600s to the early 1900s, crafted by such celebrated luthiers as Stradivari, Gagliano, and del Gesù.

The MIB experience

Here’s what some past MIB recipients have said about the opportunity:

“It has allowed me to expand the range of my playing… and has helped me to expand the colour palette in my sound”

“The sonic capabilities of the instrument were far greater than anything I’d experienced before and they offered
me ways to interpret the music with more ease”

“I feel limitless in expressing my music through the instrument and its sound stands out in an international
setting…it’s like the instrument has opened another chapter in my life, a special ingredient in my career that
I could not find anywhere else.”
