The Arts Council of the Central Okanagan invites applications for 3 summer students positions:

  1. Exhibition Coordinator

  2. Cultural Communications Coordinator

  3. Community Liaison


Exhibition Coordinator

Working with the Executive Director, Exhibition Coordinator duties will include:

  • manage call for artwork and correspond with artists
  • assist Artscape Curatorial Intern with Artscape Community Exhibition program
  • cultivate relationships with local downtown Kelowna businesses
  • develop and design exhibition promotional materials
  • assist with Canada 150 programming and promotion
  • represent ARTSCO at public outreach events and in the community at large
  • liaise with Executive Director, volunteers, and board members on a day to day basis

This position offers students a relevant work experience and a direct career connection to future public programming, education and curatorial work in arts organizations, municipal recreation programs, galleries and art centres.

An arts background is preferred.

Application Closes: May 1st 2017
Remuneration: $13.00 per hour @ minimum 30 hours per week
Position will require some evening / weekend shifts


Cultural Communications Coordinator

Working with the Executive Director, Cultural Communications Coordinator duties will include:

  • develop and design cultural promotional materials
  • cultivate relationships with local arts groups and tourism offices in Central Okanagan
  • develop and design a visual identity for Artsco programming and materials
  • assist with public relations and day-to-day design  / administrative duties
  • assist with Canada 150 programming and promotion
  • liaise with Executive Director, staff, volunteers, and board members on a day to day basis
  • represent ARTSCO at public outreach events and in the community at large

This position offers students in these disciplines relevant work experience and direct career connection to working in communication and design with the non-profit realm. The student will acquire a blend of skills in effective communication and design practices and cultivating business relationships that can applied across multiple disciplines.

Graphic design skills required. Please also include up to 6 samples of previous design work.

Community Liaison

Working with the Executive Director, Community Liaison duties will include:

  • liaise and cultivate relationships with local community arts groups
  • provide administrative support for local arts groups
  • assist Culture Days Animator in Culture Days pre-planning and programming
  • coordinate volunteers
  • assist with Canada 150 programming and promotion
  • represent ARTSCO at public outreach events and in the community at large
  • liaise with Executive Director, staff, arts organiztions, volunteers, and board members on a day to day basis

This position offers students a relevant work experience and a direct career connection to future community development and arts administration work in arts organizations, municipal recreation programs, galleries, theatres, art centres and other cultural non-profits.

Applicant Profile:

  • excellent communication skills – spoken and written
  • organized and reliable with great interpersonal skills
  • able to work independently, as well as in a team
  • Proven computer skills – experience of working with Office programs on PC or MAC – excel, word, email etc. Design skills (In-Design, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator) an asset.
  • understanding of, or willingness to learn marketing through free on-line applications including website (wordpress)/ Newsletters (Mailchimp) Social media (facebook/ twitter/ instagram/ Youtube) Events listings (castanet etc) plus use of cloud storage
  • physical ability to perform event and exhibition related work
  • an active interest the arts and community development is encouraged
  • a positive, welcoming manner in all dealings with the public, volunteers, staff and board members.

To be eligible you must:

  • be a student between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible);
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

THESE ARE A GOVERNMENT FUNDED SUMMER STUDENT CONTRACT UNTIL AUGUST 31, 2017.
