At the Rink Sterling Haynes
Hockey players are a Canadian mosaic,
Goalies nicknamed Turk, Jiggy, Gump, the Cat.
Whole forward lines of ethnic skills from diffuse backgrounds -
The Uke line, Kraut line and the French Connection.
Who can forget the three goal or more games
From the Great One, the Rocket, Boom Boom,
A Gordie Howe hat trick - a goal, an assist and a fight.
The spinnerama moves of defense men -
Denee, Bobee, Eddee and Larree at the Forum.
The coaches, the heart of the team,
Scotty, Toe, Punch and Freddy.
Say the names*, hear the blades,
Smell the sweat, feel the spray of ice,
Spit on the hot stove in the shack- hear
Sizzle and 'buzzle'-sack your gear, leave,
Slide on the ice, kick the boards
See the puck ring off the post, a missed breakaway.
Swear, then laugh to yourself at your chances.
Number 99 never misses eh?
