Movies For Kids: Pay What You Can!
ILLUSION - Starring Kirk Douglas
Sunday, March 25 at 7:30pm
Legendary film director DONALD BAINES lies dying alone in his private screening room, watching the films he has devoted his life to creating. Having isolated himself from family and friends, he now regrets many personal sacrifices. The rejection of his illegitimate child, Christopher, brings him the most pain. Having seen him only once 30 years ago. Late one night, Donald is awakened by the ghostly image of Stan, a favourite editor who has been dead more than 35 years. Suddenly Donald finds his deathbed transported to an old movie house. Stan informs Donald that he has come to help and the he will show him three films (from his Akashic records) - each representing a different period of Christopher's life. This is a story of redemption, forgiveness, compassion and soul brought to life with both brilliant storytelling and cinematic effects. Tickets $10 US online at www.spiritualcinemanetwork.com

Vernon Powerhouse Theatre is thrilled to host the Okanagan Zone Drama Festival this year. Each night of the week-long festival, an Okanagan theatre group will present their best work for adjudicator Jeff Hyslop.
Mr. Hyslop is indisputably one of Canada’s foremost performing artists. Equally masterful as a singer, dancer, actor – starring in such musical productions as Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Women, Jacques Brel, The Producers and of course the role of Mike in both the London West End and Broadway productions of A Chorus Line. To many he is the quintessential Phantom of the Opera, a role he embraced for over 900 performances.
The Festival is open to the public - come support your local group!

SUMMERLAND
The newest show at the Summerland Art Gallery, "TWO ARTISTS - TWO VISIONS ", features the stone sculptures of Petronelle van den Berg and Frances Bezeau. Opening on Thursday evening, April 26, with a wine and cheese reception from 7 to 9 p.m., the collection of stone works will offer an opportunity for the public to view the intricate art of stone carving. The variety of stone used ranges from African Wonder stone to alabaster to granite and the details of the mainly figurative work is sure to delight the viewer.
Born in Thunder Bay and raised in Victoria, Frances Keifer Bezeau majored in Fine Arts and studied with Professor Garnier in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a master sculpture with a wide knowledge in all sculptural materials and has exhibited and taught painting, drawing and sculpture across Canada. She was Programme Director and then President of the National Capital Network of Sculptures and organized many group exhibitions and public workshops, including the featured exhibit of sculpture at the Canadian Tulip Festival in Ottawa, starting in 1993. A recent commission was a marble sculpture presented to Canada Pavilion, Expo 2005, Aichi, Japan, and now in the municipal collection of Kasugai as Canada's commemorative gift to that city. She now lives and works in Kelowna, B.C. About her work, Bezeau states, " I am intrigued by the human form, its many moods and the projection of individual personality. My greatest inspiration was Rodin, and I often leave rough stone in my work. ..........I now find it most important to pass on knowledge as a master sculptor by mentoring others; .... and encouraging public awareness of the power. value and beauty of sculpture in our lives."
Petronelle van den Berg was born in the Netherlands where she attended the Academy of Art in Zutphen and apprenticed with some of Europe's and Africa's leading sculptors. In 2002 she immigrated to Canada and now lives in Naramata, B.C. where she is a full time acrylic and sculpture artist. Seventeen years ago she found stone carving. "Sculpting is a great benefit for me and a welcome variation from painting," states van den Berg." Training the hands to respond to the mind produces a fulfillment in itself." Emotions and experiences are the guides for van den Berg's sculptures which depict the human form, and so the feedback she gets from the public is important to her. "It is a from of (an) ongoing critique; a way for (me) to grow." Van den Berg works mostly without sketches, but uses her inner vision and photographic memory to guide her. She states, " It is as if someone is telling me what to do, and I just have to listen."
This amazing show of stone sculpture, "TWO ARTISTS - TWO VISIONS", is a first for the gallery and runs from April 26 until May 26 at the Summerland Art Gallery. The gallery, at 9533 Main Street, is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. While there be
