Call to Artists - 2011 Okanagan Arts Awards

The 4th Annual Okanagan Arts Awards is sending out all North, Central and South Okanagan artists to create the next design that will honour the artists in our communities.

"This is a juried process. The chosen design will receive an honorarium of $1,000.00, and each of the other 2 marquettes will receive $250.00. These funds are in appreciation of work done up to this point. If you are creating an edition for the awards, and you are the winner for this year's Call to Artists, you will receive one of your designs from the Arts Council for the Central Okanagan in appreciation of supporting the Arts Awards.

Previously submitted Arts Awards sculptures are very welcome to be submitted once again, providing the design has not be distributed (i.e. sold or gifted etc) in any way.

Artists are welcome to include the process in their submission package so the jury can see how artists worked on and overcame their challenges.

It is not required but it is suggested that artists send a preliminary email of intent ASAP to info@artsco.ca to indicate they will be submitting a proposal.

The complete written submission package is due August 10. This can be delivered, mailed or emailed to Arts Council of the Central Okanagan. Preliminary jurying of the submissions will take place August 16th, with marquettes of the sculpture due September 20, and final jurying September 24.

It is highly suggested that you automatically consider yourself shortlisted to the final three and start working on your marquette immediately. By submitting the proposal from the final marquette, you have already worked out any problems and are familiar with what your design requires. "

Past sculptors of the Okanagan Arts Awards include Pavel Bartel, Ede Axelson and Jeanne Bates.

The ARTS are the soul and spirit of society. They make a significant contribution to the social, cultural and economic well being of communities. It is important to support and encourage those who are instrumental in ensuring the arts survive and thrive.

With this in mind, The Arts Council of the Central Okanagan created the Okanagan Arts Awards to celebrate excellence in the arts in the Okanagan. These awards serve to underline the importance of the arts to our communities.
